The origin of the Brown Scapular was in the year 1251, at Mount Carmel, when the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock, gave him the Brown Scapular and told him "Those who die wearing this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire." Those who are clothed in the brown scapular must observe the certain conditions that Our Lady assigned them; 1) One must wear the Brown Scapular continuously, 2) Observe the chastity according to one's state in life(I.E. Married or Single life), 3) Pray the Holy Rosary, or the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin". For one to be clothed with the Scapular one must take the Scapular to a Catholic Priest and ask the priest to bless him/her in the Scapular.
